About Watertown CT
Being a town in Litchfield, Connecticut (United States), Watertown (zip code – 06795) has a population of approximately 21,661 based on the year 2000 census. As a suburb of Waterbury, it borders the towns of Middlebury, Woodbury, Litchfield, Bethlehem, Thomaston. Watertown was founded more than 310 years ago when the first owners of the land were Indians. In 1684, 35 proprietors together with Thomas Judd bought the land from the Indians hence the town’s history began.
With an elevation of 620 feet, Watertown is in the Eastern Standard Time. It has a total area of 29.6 square miles (29.1 is land while 0.4 is water). The town has a section known as Oakville with a separate zip code and post office. Oakville was commonly mistaken as a separate town because of this. Since Oakville doesn’t have a government or charter of its own, it clearly belongs to Watertown.
When it comes to transportation, Watertown has a lot of entry and exit points including the Route 8 expressway which runs to the eastern edge of the town (with two exits inside the town). Aside from that, the main routes of the town center are Route 63 which runs north to south and Route 6 which runs east to west. A more direct route to Waterbury, Route 73 and Route 262 are other important highways in the town. These routes connect Watertown to the outside community and to the neighboring towns.
