Types of Braces For many new patients coming into the office it can be difficult to tell the difference between various types of braces that are available on the market. There is generally a distinct difference between the price, comfort and effectiveness in each type of braces that we have available. For patients who lead busy lifestyles or require more freedom and flexibility we have options for braces that suit these needs. Traditional style braces are also available to effectively straighten teeth the way that braces have done for generations, but now utilize new technology that is designed to speed the process and aid comfort throughout treatment.

Here are some of the types of braces which are available through our offices in Watertown, Woodbury and Southington.

Traditional Metal Braces

Many of our past patients remember using traditional metal braces in order to straighten their teeth. Today’s traditional metal braces have changed exponentially from the ones of generations past. Today metal braces have become much more comfortable and light than ever before. Metal braces are now made completely out of stainless steel and are fully customizable with the use of colored elastics and ties. This means that patients can not only enjoy a higher level of comfort but they can also be more confident with braces that they chose their own way. Traditional metal braces are highly effective at straightening teeth and are also one of the more inexpensive options available for orthodontic appliances.

Ceramic Braces

These braces are designed to be far less visible on teeth and brackets are kept clear to address any cosmetic concerns the patients might have. Ceramic braces nearly blend into teeth 100% and are designed to reduce the look of braces during treatment. One drawback to ceramic braces is that they are not quite as strong as metal braces and as a result the wearer will need to be extremely careful when selecting this option.

Invisible Braces

Invisalign braces are completely removable and offer patients the ultimate in freedom with an orthodontic appliance. The treatment consists of a series of clear, form-fitting trays that can be removed for brushing and eating. The orthodontic appliance is virtually invisible and most people will be unable to detect when a person is wearing their aligners. Invisalign and Invisalign Teen are effective and convenient options for both teens and adults.
